Anaheim, California

Exhilarating rides and Mickey Mouse are star attractions, but there are plenty of things to do in Anaheim besides Disneyland® Park, whether you fancy dining at a hip food hall, going on a brewery crawl, or catching an NHL game.

From breweries to baseball, explore things to do in Anaheim besides Disneyland® Park

Famed as the home of the original Disney® resort, Anaheim is jam-packed with thrills both inside the park and beyond. You can whiz around Space Mountain and check out newer adventures like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disneyland® Park. Or you can hurtle along the Incredicoaster at dizzying speeds and meet Frozen stars Anna and Elsa at Disney California Adventure® Park.

But there’s a lot more to Anaheim than Mickey and his crew! A good place to start is the hip Packing District downtown. This cool hub is home to a historic Sunkist building converted into a trendy food hall where you can chow down on a gourmet fried chicken sandwich or indulge in a chocolate-dipped strawberry sorbetto pop. You’ll also find an eclectic lineup of outdoor concerts in neighboring Farmers Park. And across the road at the MAKE building, a former marmalade factory, you can taste smoked barbecue ribs and delicious California wines.

For a dose of history, it’s a short drive to the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum, which has a replica Oval Office and a gallery chronicling the Watergate scandal. Kids are sure to love the Discovery Cube, a fun educational attraction with hands-on science exhibits and a 3D movie theater.

Here to shop? You’ll find deals galore on big-name brands at malls like The Outlets at Orange.

Top things to do in Anaheim near Disneyland® Park:

  • Knott’s Berry Farm: If you’ve checked off all the Disney® attractions but are craving more adrenaline rushes, head to this old-school theme park for gigantic roller coasters and spinning rides. There’s a ghost town featuring cowboy and cancan shows, plus white-knuckle river rapids and an inverted roller coaster where riders are suspended beneath the track. At Camp Snoopy, little kids can enjoy gentle rides and meet the Peanuts gang.
  • Hiking: Trails of all levels crisscross peaceful Santiago Oaks Regional Park, east of the city. Paths weave among oak trees, an orange grove, and rolling desert terrain, with spectacular mountain views. Another popular route is the reputedly haunted Black Star Canyon Trail, where you’ll scramble over giant boulders to reach a dramatic waterfall.
  • Pro sports: Hockey fans can yell for the Anaheim Ducks NHL team at the massive Honda Center arena. Or, if you’re into baseball, catch the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at their namesake stadium. Behind-the-scenes tours of the ballpark take you to the field and dugout, as well as into the broadcast booth and press conference room.
  • Bolsa Chica State Beach: A popular spot for surfing and water sports, this sweeping stretch of sand is only half an hour’s drive Anaheim. You can cast a line from the shore to try hooking perch and sand shark, or you can head to the nearby Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve, a protected wetlands area home to migratory birds like terns and snowy plovers.
  • Craft breweries: Innovative, small-batch breweries are booming in Anaheim, and most have tasting rooms where you can order a flight with snacks like pretzels and tacos. Standouts include Anaheim Brewery, a local institution since 1870, and Bottle Logic Brewing, which concocts inventive beers like a cinnamon coffee cake-inspired sweet stout.
