What are carbon removal credits?

Carbon compensating and carbon removals both address carbon emissions, yet the first one focus on reduction whilst the second one removes carbon form the atmosphere. 

Carbon compensation originates from strategies and practices that reduce emissions at the source and prevent them from entering the atmosphere, such as funding renewable energy projects or upgrading cookstoves in developing countries. 

Carbon removals on the other hand, physically removes carbon emissions from the atmosphere, representing a more advanced and impactful solution to target carbon emissions.

Verified Net Zero Hotels have eliminated energy emissions and significantly reduced operational emissions, however, to reach the 2040 requirements of the Net Zero Methodology For Hotels, the emissions that cannot be further eliminated must be removed.

This is where carbon removal credits complete the cycle. By partnering with Agreena on the AgreenaCarbon Project, where farmers have adopted sustainable farming practices, known as regenerative agriculture, to remove the equivalent footprint of the Verified Net Zero Hotels from the atmosphere.
