Innovative partners successfully contribute to Verified Net Zero hotels

With around 50% of Scope 3 emissions originating with Food and Beverage, Verified Net Zero Hotels have partnered with Klimato, to offer low carbon menus. Klimato’ s innovative methodology has been designed by scientists and validated by the World Resource Institute, presenting a database that covers 4,000 ingredients and 20,000 variations across 100 countries. 

All menu and buffet items are labelled from A-E to inform about the carbon footprint and allow guests to make a carbon conscious choice. All with the best and bold flavors in mind, which guests expect in our hotels. 

The results are self-evident with 95% of all food offered in Manchester being designed with climate in mind and 80% of meeting & events menus in Oslo being rated low in carbon emissions.

Too Good To Go supports RHG Verified Net Zero hotels by helping ensure that great food is enjoyed, not wasted. Food waste is a key driver of Scope 3 emissions, so reducing it plays an important role in lowering the overall environmental footprint of our low-carbon food offering.

Through the Too Good To Go app, guests and local users can purchase surplus breakfast or buffet items at a reduced price. This means our delicious, low-carbon food is valued to the last bite.

Reducing waste requires maximizing recycling and finding innovative solutions Targeting the closed loop recycling of bulk bathroom amenities’ dispensers is fundamental to reducing Scope 3 emissions across the waste management segment. 

Verified Net Zero Hotels have activated Clean the Word, ensuring that bulk amenity dispensers are 100% recycled. Once shampoo, shower gel, conditioner, hand and body lotion dispenser bottles are used up, these are sent to a recycling center and 100% recycled, including the bottle pump. 

The end products are recycled pellets that can give life to items such as blankets, toys, new products, DIY craft and jewelry and even pieces of art.

Reducing food waste ticks so many positive impact boxes: requiring less produce, less time and resources to prepare and less energy to treat the waste. That is why Verified Net Zero Hotels partnered with eSmiley to identify opportunities to reduce it.

eSmiley is a food waste monitoring tool installed in the restaurants kitchens that weighs storage, production, buffet and plate waste.

This comprehensive approach brings the chefs and kitchen team members to work together on the reduction of storage and production food waste, whilst plate food waste reduction starts with establishing a baseline on dishes served to guests during all day dinning and breakfast.

Buffet food waste is also reduced by engaging guests, using simple and powerful messages such as “Take all you can eat, but eat all you can take” and “Less waste is good taste”.
