Malmö, in the far south of Sweden, just across the Öresund strait from Copenhagen in Denmark, is the third largest city in the country after Stockholm and Gothenburg and one of the most eclectic cities in Scandinavia. Founded in the late 1200s, Malmö originally belonged to Denmark, only becoming Swedish in 1658. Today, the city is home to a true melting pot of cultures. Malmö’s university, founded only in 1988, has already made the city a center of technological initiative, and its modernity is epitomized by the 2005 presence since of Turning Torso, a huge, attractive skyscraper.
Malmö has developed in recent years as a business travel hub and an ideal location for business events and conventions with its best-in-class venues. The 18,581sqm Malmomassan with its 13,006-square-meter exhibition hall puts Malmö on the map of the most attractive destinations for conventions.
In 2017, Malmö Tourism became the first Swedish tourism organization to achieve ISO certification 20121; an accreditation that not only affirms the entity’s credentials but that affirms the wider city’s ongoing and unwavering dedication to sustainability. The 2016 European Commission awarded Malmö with the “Best Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning Award”.
