As part of the hotel industry’s Pathway to Net Positive Hospitality, hotels are encouraged to advance their sustainability pathway with a robust and structured sustainability plan of action and gain a recognized third-party, eco-label certification for their sustainability efforts. Achieving an eco-label is an excellent way for hotels to showcase their next-level sustainability performance and improve their positive impact.

Hotel Sustainability Basics

A globally recognized and coordinated set of sustainability actions that all hotels should implement as a minimum.

The essential sustainability program includes 12 elements, focusing on resource reduction, environmentally friendly elements in the guest journey and impactful actions in the local community.

The Hotel Sustainability Basics criteria include reducing energy, water use, waste and carbon emissions. Hotels operate a linen reuse program, use green cleaning products and offer vegetarian options on all food menus. Our aim is to move away from plastic straws or single-use plastic water bottles and use only bulk amenity dispensers in our rooms. We support communities and promote inclusion and equity. This is our basic commitment, supported with a positive mindset to continually include more sustainable practices.
