Impressive feat of engineering
Construction of Sydney Tower began in the late 1970s and was opened to the public in August 1981. Pre-made individual barrel units form the shaft of the tower and the four levels of the turret structure were constructed at the base of the shaft and raised to the top as work progressed. Ranked as one of the safest buildings in the world, the tower's distinctive design has made it capable of withstanding earthquakes and extreme wind conditions. However, on the rare occasion that Sydney suffers from wet or windy weather conditions, the Tower Eye has a "Weather Promise," ensuring you'll receive a special pass allowing you to return within 7 days. During your visit, you might have the pleasure of seeing "Charlie." Charlie is the name of the semi-automatic window cleaning machine who cleans the 420 windows of the tower. He takes two days to clean all the windows! Sydney Tower sells fast-track tickets online, allowing you to skip the queues and reach the top speedily, ensuring a seamless experience at this popular and unforgettable attraction.
