The ultimate Fujairah shopping guide

If you want to try your hand at bartering and get a taste of the traditional way of shopping in Fujairah, head to one of the Fujairah markets, or ‘souqs'.

One of the most famous markets in Fujairah is the Friday Market, known as Souq al Juma to the locals, which is held on the road by Masafi. Originally held every Friday, the market has become so popular that it's now on every day. It's used by locals and tourists alike, and visitors to the Friday Market in Fujairah will find bargains in many of the stalls. Vendors sell a great range of local products; from handmade craft, carpets and pottery, to fresh fruit and vegetables, and even household toys and souvenirs.

The traditional Central Souq in Fujairah is mainly utilised by locals, which makes it a particularly good place to visit for an authentic look at the city. The Central Souq sells meat, fish and local farm produce, but visitors will also find gifts and treats to purchase for themselves. The Fujairah market hall has shops selling colourful textiles, handmade clothes, household products, exotic spices and dates.

Another popular Fujairah market for visitors is the Tourist Night Souq, which is open every evening until midnight. Over 100 traders sell thousands of products here, bringing goods from around the region to visitors. There is also nightly entertainment, games to play, and local and international eateries.

In the east coast town of Dibba, which is uniquely split between Fujairah, Oman and, Sharjah, another traditional Fujairah market will appeal to visitors. The Dibba Fish Market on the coast opens when the fishermen arrive with their catches from the day, and salted fish can be bought all day long.

One of the most modern and sophisticated places to go shopping in Fujairah is the newly opened City Centre Fujairah shopping mall.

This huge building houses over 100 different shops, and is the pride of Fujairah city. Here you can browse through shops selling everything from international fashion, work from local designers, lifestyle products and homeware, to children's goods and electronics. There are food and drinks shops too, with the largest hypermarket in the Emirates.

As well as shops, the City Centre Fujairah shopping mall has a multi-screen cinema, the Magic Planet family entertainment centre, and on site restaurants.
