The Ozo Golf Club's name is derived from the owner, a renowned NHL ice-hockey player from Latvia. Ozo was in fact Sandis Ozolinš (pronounced ‘Ozolinsh', Latvian for ‘oak') nickname when he played with the NHL. It seems to have made enough of an impression to honor the land and rockeries along with ponds (16 of) stretching 6.4km from the back tees.

Perhaps what makes the course thrilling is the variation involved. Nothing was spared in ensuring the course is as playful as it is exclusive in its own right. Denver (US) based designer, Rob Swedberg did an outstanding job at implementing accents of his native rocky mountains back in Colorado while harmoniously combining it to the local countryside which includes a majestic lake. Surrounding the tranquil course, there are 50 formed sand bunkers altogether. Ozo is a renowned golfing establishment known to have the first 18-hole golf course in the country. The club also boasts an efficient irrigation system using Rain Bird watering systems and is kept to high standards using John Deere machines and systems. Finally, it includes facilities a good club could not be without, such as a driving range as well as chipping and putting greens.

Such attention to detail is not limited to the incredible course alone, however. The club boasts a restaurant and facilities that rival those of world-leading clubs. There is also special dressing and locker room facilities, a pool, sauna and storage for members. From avid golfers to foodies, many take in the pleasures of Ozo's stunning surroundings and clubhouse.

It's no wonder that they've received the ‘Best Natural Architecture Project' in Latvia. On a more international scale, the club has been named among 365 courses around the world selected by New York Times golf reporter and author of ‘World golf courses', Robert Sidorsky.
