Fabulous photography at Fotografiska

If you've ever had an interest in photography, then Stockholm's Fotografiska is where you need to be. So grab your camera and head on over to this beautiful seaside museum.

Ever since the museum opened its doors in 2010 it has been a centerpiece of Stockholm. Not only does Fotografiska offer world-class exhibitions but also boasts some of the best views of the Swedish capital, close to our Radisson Blu Waterfront hotel. If you're a photographer or just interested in photography you can't afford to miss it.

The very heart of Fotografiska is made up of its many exhibitions and even though it is a young museum, some of the biggest names in photography have had their works hung on the wall. World famous portrait photographer Annie Leibovitz was the first artist to have her work on display at Fotografiska and many big names have followed since. With four major exhibitions each year and 15-20 smaller ones, there is always something new to see.

But Fotografiska's strength lies not in just exhibiting the works of famous photographers. The museum also aims to bring new, unestablished talent out of the darkrooms and into the light. They have introduced the world to photographers such as Helena Blomqvist and Johan Wik. Seeing new talent side-by-side with established photographers is what makes this such a special and unique look into the world of photography.

2016 has already been host to several great exhibitions at Fotografiska and the rest of the year will be no different. To start off the summer you can marvel at the awe-inducing photographs of Nick Brandt in the exhibition “Inherit the Dust”. This series of powerful and deeply disturbing epic panoramas show life sized portraits of animals placed and photographed at the places where they used to roam. “Inherit The Dust” showcases the terrible deterioration of landscape and absence of animals created by an impact of man.

Another spectacular exhibition will be “Non Grata” by Åke Ericson. Here the Swedish photographer explores the love, culture and difficulties of everyday life for Europe's Romani population. His documentary style takes the viewer into a world unknown to most, spanning from the segregated Romani ghettos in Slovakia and to Spain, where the group is largely accepted by the general population.

Each year Fotografiska invites Swedish citizens and long-term residents to apply to their Autumn Salon, aiming to showcase and present the best of Sweden's photography. Both amateurs and professionals alike are on display. This might just be where you'll see works like no other and definitely something you do not want to miss out on.

But Fotografiska has more than just stunning exhibitions to offer you when visiting. Stop by their gift shop and you can delve into the world of photography through books and more. Or enjoy the lively concert scene found here throughout the year.

One thing you cannot miss is their own restaurant, located on the top floor of the museum. This is far from a regular restaurant experience. Here you choose your green product of choice, a taste and something from the animal kingdom to complement it if you like. You'll be rewarded with not only terrific tastes but also a stunning view of all of Stockholm. Glance out the windows here and you'll understand why the Swedish capital is nicknamed the “Venice of the North”. Fotografiska offers a feast for your eyes, taste buds and soul. Who would want to miss out on that?
