This ancient Hindu temple was originally built in 200 BC by Jaloka son of emperor Ashoka on the site where saint Shankaracarya is said to have worshiped lord Shiva. Sitting at an altitude of 1,900 meters, the structure is located atop Gopadari Hill, more commonly known as Shankaracharya Hill, offering magnificent views of Dal Lake and the city of Srinagar.
