I needed to stay near Amsterdam Centraal. This is an expensive part of the city to stay in, but I found the Park Plaza to be among the most reasonable. The room was nice and overlooked the Centraal station plaza and waterways. But the best thing about this stay was the service. Here are a few examples: One of the team working the concierge desk at night, (Sander, I believe) provided exceptional service. It was 11:43 pm and as I'd arrived that day and immediately met friends for dinner I had not had time to buy water and some other things for the room. I asked Sander for the location of the nearest shop that was still open, and he directed me to the Albert Hijn behind Amsterdam Centraal. I started walking there at a brisk pace to make it before closing. After walking at least 5 minutes, I hear someone behind me saying "Excuse me sir?" It was Sander, who had realised that I would need a transit pass to get through the station ticket barriers to reach the store. He proceeded to accompany me through the barriers right to the front door or the shop. That extremely kind gesture probably took him at least 15 minutes and a considerable walk. I was impressed by his consideration and effort. Another event worth noting. There was an extremely loud guest in the hall across from my room, who woke me up from a sound sleep at 4 am. I went across the hall and knocked on his door three times, but he didn't answer. Reluctantly I rang the front desk, and the person who answered assured me who would deal with it in person, which he did, swiftly. Lastly the reception staff were all great: attentive, helpful and pleasant.
Great location room excellent could not fault anything this trip
We stayed in an Executive Twin Flex Room for five nights and we're really happy to have stayed here. We took the train from the airport to Amsterdam Centraal Station which was literally across the street. Since we planned on doing day trips to Rotterdam and Den Haag and then travel by Eurostar to Brussels, this hotel was in the perfect location due to the proximity to Centraal. There's also a metro station at Centraal which was convenient to get around Amsterdam and it was within walking distance to areas like the Anne Frank House and Negen Straatjes. The room was quite large for European standards and had a desk area, sitting area, and ample storage and closet space. The restroom had a full size shower with the only negative being a sink that didn't drain well. Because the hotel spans two buildings, there were two elevators you had to take to get to the room. The decor was modern and everything was clean and well taken care of. We ate breakfast twice at Carstens and it had a good variety of hot breakfast items, yogurts, pastries, fruits and made-to-order eggs with a selection of juices and coffees. We didn't take advantage of the other amenities so I don't know what the pool, spa or fitness facilities were like. The staff was incredible. Everyone from reception to housekeeping were so welcoming and kind, but the guys at the concierge were by far the nicest and most helpful. They took an interest in where you planned to go and offered advice on everything from modes of transportation, payment options for the metro, and places to eat. They checked in on us daily knowing it took us almost 24 hours to get to Amsterdam and were so genuine and caring about us as guests.
We stayed for 4 nights and were very happy with our choice of hotel. It is so convenient for Central station and looks very impressive inside and out. The staff are what complete the experience though - everyone we encountered was so helpful and friendly, always cheery and patient and they worked incredibly hard to meet the demands of all of their guests. It was very much appreciated, they do a fantastic job. The rooms are very impressive and comfortable. Breakfast was well laid out and replenished often. We dined at Carstens in the evening and the steak was cooked to perfection. Vic’s bar was so warm and cosy after a day in the rain and snow! We would highly recommend this as very welcoming for families and we will definitely be returning.
Great hotel at great, super central location location, quick transport links to everything and most importantly to central train station and from there to/from Airport. 500m away from RDL :) Excellent service. Staff is always beyond kind and professional. Special thanks to Yasmin at Reception for being always so helpful and smiling.
