Radisson Blu Resort & Spa, Ajaccio Bay - TripAdvisor traveler rating

After 10 years, we have come back to this amazing hotel. The rooms are clean, the breakfast is just fine, but the real value lies in the beach (perhaps the best within an hours drive of Ajaccio) which is just a minute walk from the hotel. Here are the best places to snorkel at the beach: 1. The rocks The rocks are located at the far right side of the beach. They stretch quite far out to sea, and you can sometimes stand in knee thigh deep water on top of one of these rocks. This is the closest we got to a reef in Corsica. Here you can see plenty of colorful wrasses, larger fish and goby’s, as well as seabirds hunting schools of fish, and, if you’re lucky, moray eels. This also seems like the sort of place scorpionfish would hang out, although we didn’t see one. 2. The giant stone slab. The giant stone slab is located just to the right of the small rectangle of yellow buoys in front of the hotel. This huge stone slab is some 50 m long and although snorkeling isn’t excellent here, we found a juvenile octopus living in a rocky crevice at the left tip of the slab, whom we visited every day and interacted with. 3. The seagrass meadows If you swim all the way out to the line of buoys marking where swimming is safe, you will find yourself in a seagrass meadow, mostly barren of life, with the occasional stingray swimming by. This makes up most of the coastal waters, and unless you really want to see a stingray, don’t spend too long snorkeling here. All in all, this snorkeling beats our experiences in Rhodes, Sicily, Paros, Antiparos and Naxos, and the rest of the Mediterranean!

We have stayed at this hotel several times over the years, and once again the hotel itself impressed us. The location is simply outstanding, right by Agosta Beach, with beautiful sea views that are hard to beat. We stayed in a Premium Room, which was spacious, very comfortable, spotlessly clean, and offered a wonderful view over the bay. The reception staff were warm, professional, and welcoming throughout our stay. Based on the hotel, the rooms, the cleanliness, and the location alone, I would happily give this property five stars. Unfortunately, the food and beverage operation tells a completely different story. Breakfast was a major disappointment. With the exception of one older lady who has been working there for years and was clearly doing her very best, the breakfast team appeared poorly organised and unmotivated. Tables often remained uncleared for more than 15 minutes while guests waited for somewhere to sit, or ended up clearing tables themselves and searching for cutlery, cups, or glasses. The breakfast selection was equally disappointing and far below what one would expect from a Radisson Blu hotel. There were virtually no Corsican specialties, only two kinds of industrial cheese, very limited fresh fruit, and melons that were so hard they were practically inedible. Throughout breakfast, essential items such as milk, bread, cutlery, cups, or glasses repeatedly ran out and were not replenished for 10–20 minutes. This level of service might be acceptable in a budget hotel, but it is certainly not what guests expect from a Radisson Blu. We also had dinner in the restaurant on one evening. Sadly, it was equally disappointing: unimaginative, canteen-style cooking that lacked both quality and character. On an island with such an excellent culinary tradition, this was a missed opportunity. Overall, this is a wonderful hotel that is unfortunately let down by its restaurant and breakfast service. If management invested the same care in the food and beverage department as they clearly do in the hotel itself, this would easily be one of the best places to stay near Ajaccio.

Enjoyed our time at the hotel, at the end of the season. The rooms overlooking the bay are great, with acceptable air-conditioning (seems that you can't fully control it in room, although there is a thermostat!) When the sun is shining then dining alfresco is great, although MUST be booked. Breakfast was adequate, is a little unimaginative, the coffee was lousy (from the machines). When the weather cooled then you realise that the hotel is a little lacking in character, so a perfectly good corporate feel. There are a couple of nearby restaurants that serve nice food, just outside the perimeter.

A really nice hotel with excellent staff and a friendly atmosphere. Food was spot on and they couldn’t do enough for us throughout our stay.
