We have been staying with Park Plaza Wangfujing (PPW) every time we travel to Beijing since 2009 having initially discovered the hotel by accident. I used to say it is a hidden treasure in Beijing in terms of hotels but I'm not sure if it is a secret any more as all the guests we speak to love it and are repeat guests as well. We used to stay as a couple on holiday and now as a family of 5 with 3 kids, and the stay at the hotel has always been 10/10 for us no matter how our personal situation has changed. My husband and I love the hotel and now our 3 kids love it too. We call it our " home away from home" when we are in Beijing. I will try and summarise the success of this hotel in 3 top winning categories for us.
Staff: the team at PPW doesn't change over the years from reception, management to concierge team, and that speaks volumes about the ethos and feeling of the hotel. The management team and concierge guys are friendly, genuine and are super helpful. In a city like Beijing where things are fast changing and rules and regulations are uncertain (such as how to book tickets to forbidden city or reserve a space for Beijing zoo to see the pandas), the team is always there to help decipher it and help you get to where you need, going above and beyond to help you have an enjoyable stay.
The hotel: the hotel rooms are comfy, with a great view, and spacious for Beijing. We stayed here in July for 3 weeks and have found it super comfortable and not once did the kids miss home. They were really sad to leave the hotel in fact on our last few days. The rooms are clean, smell great and you never feel the hotel is crowded or noisy. Food at the hotel buffet breakfast is also delicious and has a large range from western fry up/waffles to chinese traditional items, to freshly made noodles, wontons and dim sum. Our kids loved breakfast every morning and ate lots ready for a full day out.
Location: location is unbeatable. The hotel is on one of the most affluent streets in centre Beijing and the most popular shopping areas (Wangfujing) and yet within minutes of walking you can reach the forbidden city, and the Beijing hutongs and royal parks. One massive perk for us is being able to walk everywhere to the sites and take in Beijing outside of a taxi. The hotel is also luckily within walking distance to 3 of the best and most trending Peking duck restaurants in the city (Da Dong, Si ji Min Fu and Zhi Guan Yuan) which our family repeatedly had for dinner. The hotel is also on the corner of Deng Shi Ko metro station which is on one of the main lines and we found it so convenient after a tiring day to just come up from the metro to be straight at the hotel!
Whether it is your first time in Beijing and you are unsure or you travel to Beijing regularly, look no further and book this hotel, you won't regret it and will be back again.
