The Hotel. I took the airport bus "Flybussen" from the airport-the cost was £22.40. When you exit the airport make your way to bus stop 11. The bus you need is the FB3 to Okern. You can pay the driver by card, or use the machine at the bus stop- it was cheaper and user friendly. The journey time was approximately 45 minutes. On my return journey I used the "EN TUR" app it was easy to use and gave you real time of the buses. I think they run every 30 minutes back to the airport. The hotel is a ten minute walk from Okern metro station-up the hill- you will see the Red of the building. The hotel is set in the middle of a development of apartments. Upon arrival at the hotel I was greeted by the receptionist- the lovely Tova. Tova was very efficient, helpful with directions etc and she was friendly. My room allocation was on the 8th floor. The Room. The room was exceptionally clean. There was a kettle, tea and coffee making facilities. There was an iron, ironing board, free to use safe and a slim line chiller for bottles. The storage was very poor- only a handful of hangers which were set in a tiny rail- no closet, it is just a small hanging place. (See photo's). Although, it wasn't an issue for me as I was a solo traveller, travelling light. The bathroom was a good size with a large sink and walk in shower. There was shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, hand wash, body lotion, tissues and a hair dryer. There were no slippers, but after a call to reception, housekeeping quickly delivered them to my room. The bed was a super king size and it was soooo soft and comfortable. The aircon fan was very noisy, but I didn't need it at this time of year- so it was switched off. One word of WARNING- when you exit the room and close the door- it does not lock automatically. You have to tap the key card on the sensor of the door to lock it. I only found this out from the maid who was outside my room one day as I exited. I automatically pressed the handle of the door down to ensure it was locked- but it wasn't. Thankfully, she was there and told me to use the key card to lock it. I didn't eat at the hotel- so I can't comment on the food. There is a little red truck near the lifts where there is a selection of cold beverages and food to go. To get to Oslo city centre you need to get the metro from Okern towards the direction of the city centre. There are two lines that service the station- lines 4 and 5- both run to the City. There are three stations centrally that you can alight- but I always alighted at the National Theatre stop- that was central for me. The journey was about 10-15 minutes. To return to the hotel you get the 4 or 5 line towards the direction of Silheti. As I mentioned earlier the hotel is surrounded by a large development of apartments, it has a village feel to it, with restaurants, coffee shops and supermarket etc. In fact I dined at three of the restaurants during my stay. (Reviewed separately). All in all- I really enjoyed my stay at the Radisson Red and would highly recommend it.
Our stay at the hotel was very pleasant. I enjoyed basically everything about this hotel. The entrance - very clean and modern The staff - friendly, attentive Rooms - clean, modern looking with great views Atmosphere - modern And last but not least breakfasts... I LOVED THEM. They offered variety of different foods and beverages and it was all delicious. Location of the hotel was fine to me. Unfortunately at the time when we were there it was not possible to park electric scooters in a close distance near the hotel entrance, but still it wasn't hard to find parked scooters whenever we needed to get somewhere. Overall quite quiet place. The value which this hotel provides is in my huble opinion great, especially if you are part of Radisson rewards program.
On a recent trip to Norway my wife and I traveled with her sister. Getting to the hotel from the airport was a bit of a chore but was my fault for not planning better. We took rail transportation to the Central Station and due to the large amount of (heavy) luggage, had to take two taxis to the hotel. The station was extremely busy at the time and might be easier to navigate during a slower period. Once at the hotel we found two subway stations within walking distance and could have used that transportation much easier and cheaper. There is also a Flybus pickup and drop off point very near the hotel that we took back to the airport upon leaving. We had two rooms on different floors and both were very nice. Ours was a little larger but we paid extra for the space (corner room). The location was great and there were shops, markets, and restaurants close by. There was also an interesting park (Lorenparken) nearby with an assortment of sculptures and restored buildings that were built by Norwegian prisoners of war during the Nazi occupation. Compared to the airport Radisson Blu Hotel we stayed at before an early departure, the Radisson Red Okern was a good value. The room windows will crack open slightly if it gets too warm and there is plenty of space in our room for two or three people. The rooms were both very clean and well kept. Judging from the crowds at breakfast, the hotel was pretty busy though we never heard anything or saw many people in the lobby area. Seldom did we have to wait even a minute for the elevator. The breakfast was great with a large selection that was very well maintained and re-supplied by an excellent staff. The desk staff was also very friendly, helpful and were never too busy to answer a question or offer a suggestion.
I have stayed in this hotel on many occasions and always felt very welcome. The rooms are clean and perfect for business trips. The location is within walking distance of multiple public transport options and within minutes of Oslo city centre. The breakfast spread is worth getting up for a bit early to take the time and enjoy it and overall, the hotel feels warm and homey. The staff do their very best to make you feel at home.
It was a lovely stay, everything was fantastic! Regarding the breakfast, I think that still there is room for improvement, namely to provide guests with more variety in general (namely cheeses, as I am cheese lover). A special thanks to Erika!
