Adalaj Stepwell
Built in 1499 by Queen Rudabai, wife of the Veersinh Vaghela, in the serene village of Adalaj, this ancient stepwell (vav) has provided a quiet refuge for travelers and pilgrims for centuries. It's believed that villagers would visit the Adalaj Stepwell every morning to draw water and offered prayers to the deities carved into the walls.
Sabarmati Ashram
After returning from South Africa, Mahatma Gandhi established his first ashram in India on May 25, 1915 at Kochrab, Ahmedabad. Two years later, on June 17, 1917, the ashram was relocated to open land on the banks of the Sabarmati River. The ashram was moved further out land following Gandhiji's desire to experiment with self-sustained living including farming, animal husbandry, cow breeding, khadi production, and other constructive activities.
Kankaria Lake
The largest lake in Ahmedabad, Kankaria Lake was completed in 1451 during the reign of Sultan Qutb-ud-din Ahmad Shah II. It features a 34-sided polygonal structure with a 1.25-kilometer circuit and steps leading down to the water. The lake's eastern side features an intricately carved water inlet with three circular openings, a distinctive feature of several reservoirs in Gujarat.
