Step back in time

From weaponry to fascinating archaeological discoveries, the museum's collection provides educational and great fun for the kids. Step inside from the hot sun and enjoy the cool of the museum while learning a great deal about the local area. In the museum halls and outside, objects brought in from the ancient city of Erythrai are on display, like marble statues, silver and bronze coins, graves from various eras, terracotta figurines, busts, pottery, architectural components, iron and bronze cannonballs, catapult balls, and old olive crushing mechanisms. These items will captivate the young and old with their incredible artistry and historical significance. The Art Gallery at the entrance of the museum is home to many exhibitions each year.

Enjoy the unique castle atmosphere

Explore the museum and then head outside to enjoy breathtaking views of Cesme from this high vantage point. The structure was originally built right on the water in order to give the best views of the sea; however, the land has since been filled in and there is a road passing in front. Visitors can also explore the visible ruins of the castle. Most important of these are the city walls. Besides this, the acropolis and the theater in the northern section, and the villa buildings found in excavations are must-see landmarks. The Athena temple belonging to the Archaic period, the church constructed in the Byzantine period, the Roman villa and mosaics at the location known as Cennettepe, and the bath building constructed in the late Roman period can also be seen. Bear in mind that there are many steep steps, so if coming with small children you won't be able to bring the stroller everywhere. Within the castle walls you will also find some charming places to have a drink or bite to eat, as well as plenty of opportunities to pause and enjoy the historic atmosphere inside, and reflect on what you have seen at the museum.
