78 Derngate (Historic Georgian house)

78 Derngate is the only house in England designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and is hailed as a multi-award-winning attraction. A trip here offers an unforgettable day out in Northampton, England. The house is a typical early nineteenth century brick terrace, built between 1815-1820, and consisting of a basement, kitchen, offices that open directly into the garden area, two ground floor rooms, two floors with two bedrooms each, and an attic room with a dormer window (which was a structural add-on). You'll also find a small courtyard behind the home, with a well and an outside toilet.

About the design

Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the famous Scottish architect, remodeled 78 Derngate in 1916. 78 Derngate is the only example of Mackintosh's work outside of Scotland, and his unique architectural style and vision shines through. 78 Derngate was his final major commission. His use of lines, symmetry, vibrant color, and light are very distinct, so don't miss the rare opportunity to see some of his original work. 78 Derngate is not only famed for its Charles Rennie Mackintosh design, but also for its use as an elegant and special venue. Guests have the unique opportunity to enjoy an afternoon tea, fabulous dining, stylish shopping, and inspirational art exhibitions throughout their visit. 78 Derngate also has facilities that can be reserved for meetings, events, and private functions.
