Sharjah Cricket Stadium

Cricket is one of the most popular sports in Sharjah, so much so that the Sharjah Cricket Stadium has hosted more One Day Internationals than any other venue. Starting life as a small facility with limited seating, the Sharjah Cricket Stadium is now a world-class venue, boasting a capacity of 27,000 people.

Built in the early 1980s, Sharjah Cricket Stadium quickly became the home of cricket tournaments in the United Arab Emirates. Between 1984 and 2018, the ground held 236 One Day Internationals, attracting large crowds particularly from the region's expat population. Five test matches have been held at the stadium, including two matches between Pakistan and the West Indies, two fixtures between Pakistan and Australia, and one match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Although many of the region's popular cricket matches are now held in neighboring Abu Dhabi, Sharjah still maintains a strong cricketing tradition. The stadium was home to the Afghanistan cricket team from 2010-2016.
