Cheer, chant, and whoop along with over 21,000 football fans during a match at the grand Lerkendal Stadium. Located in the Lerkendal neighborhood in Trondheim, this sporting venue is the home stadium of the football club Rosenborg Ballklub and is the second largest stadium in Norway. Whether you're seeing a European Cup match, going on a stadium tour, or even attending a rock concert, you are bound to have fun in the grandstands.
The original building pales in comparison to today's facilities. Built back in 1947, the all-purpose stadium consisted of a grass field, two gravel fields, two tennis courts, two handball courts, and a running track. Over the following several decades, as Rosenborg's team developed, Lerkendal Stadium was steadily improved.
As Rosenborg gained status, the stadium was demolished in the ‘90s and rebuilt with modern amenities and a VIP lodge. In the early 2000s, Rosenborg bought the stadium from Trondheim city for a complete overhaul. More renovations occurred to expand the grandstands and make the stadium into what it is today. With future plans for additional improvements, it is now truly a world stage.
Visiting the stadium
You can of course visit the stadium to watch the Rosenborg Ballklub play, but you'll find more to do within the stadium walls. Starting from three hours before a game, you can eat at the on-site restaurant. You'll also find the on-site bar open three hours before the match. For two hours before kickoff, head to the Fanzone for plenty of activities, food, and drinks.
Take a guided tour to learn about the history of the stadium as well as the Rosenborg Ballklub. You'll hear about the players and coaches and listen to tales about the biggest games played in the stadium, all while exploring the grounds.
Watch the schedule to find events unrelated to the game, where you can still enjoy time inside the stadium. Listen to a concert from the grandstands or host a private event within the pub.
A VIP experience
A great perk that came with the improvements in 2002 is the VIP box and its excellent dining opportunities. There are different VIP tickets to choose from and 1,931 VIP seats available. If you would like to make a memorable experience for you and your travel partners or business colleagues, then be sure to book VIP tickets in advance. The thrill of a match at Lerkendal Stadium is a great excursion for any trip to Trondheim.
