Museum of Archaeology

Journey through Rogaland County's history

Based inside the University of Stavanger, the museum's collection tells the story of all those who lived in and around Rogaland County throughout history. The collection dives into the past, starting from pre-historic times until the Middle Ages. Discover bronze jewelry and other Viking treasures, coins, spearheads, swords, and tools.

One of the museum's key attractions includes an 8,200-year-old skeleton of the "Viste Boy". You won't want to miss out on a visit to the Iron Age Farm, associated with the Museum of Archaeology, where you can see what life was like 1,500 years ago.

Fun for everyone

The museum is not only a place for history and culture buffs, this small museum features a variety of interactive exhibits to captivate young and old. Take a guided tour or join a selection of lectures and activities throughout the year. On the lower level of the museum, kids will love taking a journey back in time with the interactive time machine.

In the summer months, don't miss out on the "Viking Summer" event at the museum where you can learn all about the Vikings, how they lived, ate, fought, and even try your hand at being an archaeologist.
