Green Dog Svalbard is a family owned business located in Bolterdalen, a valley near Longyearbyen. With more than 20 years of combined experience in dogsledding, their expert staff are on hand to offer support, ensuring a wonderful sledding experience for the whole family. Canine companions The dog pack is made up of Greenland Dogs and Greenland Dogs mixed with Huskies, meaning a lively and strong team of dogs. They have nearly 250 sled dogs in all and is the biggest dog yard at Svalbard. There are are around 15-20 puppies born at Green Dog every year and they happily let visitors get close to these cute newcomers. During the day, you'll learn the difference between the dogs in your team and to get to know their differing personalities. Dashing through the snow
The valleys and the high arctic nature offers perfect conditions for the dogs to take you on exciting adventures, both in summer and winter. Trips range from 3 hours to 3 days and all guests can participate at varying levels of difficulty, whether you want to be hands on with all aspects of dog sledding, or to take it easy and watch the winter world go past you. No previous experience is necessary. Sled through beautiful Bolterdalen and enjoy the unique arctic scenery and glimpses of amazing arctic wildlife, such as reindeer and ptarmigan. Stop in at a rare ice cave to view ice like you've never seen it before, in fantastic shapes and beautiful colors. After your trip, enjoy coffee and biscuits in the heated, Russian cabin and visit the kennel to see how the dogs live. An unforgettable experience Green Dog run four departures a day and offer a pick up service from your hotel and bring you to the kennel, where you'll be kitted out with all the right equipment, such as snowsuits, boots, hats, neck gaiters, goggles and mittens. Guests will need to wear a warm inner layer and extra socks. The safety of Green Dog's passengers is number one priority at all times, but guests should have good health conditions before they take the trip and all children should be accompanied by an adult. They also work hard to ensure that their experiences do not affect the local environment and that their dog pack remains healthy and happy during the whole process.
