When you are staying in Lubeck, listed as one of UNESCO'S World Heritage sites, you must visit the Music and Congress Hall or how locals like to call it MuK – a place where music shines in all its splendor.
An architectural masterpiece
Located by the River Trave near the Holsten Gate and facing the historic Old Town, the MuK is one of the most remarkable buildings in Lubeck. It was founded in 1994, after four years of project and construction by the renowned group Architekten von Gerkan, Marg und Partner from Hamburg. The cultural building is a contemporary-looking structure of steel and glass, offering visitors to Lubeck a contrast to the traditional buildings in the Old Town. The structure was designed in a traditional shoebox shape based on a central axis. The walls of the chamber were made with wooden layers to achieve amazing acoustics, one of the aspects for why the MuK is well-known for. In the area above the podium, there is a stainless-steel reflector and acoustic panels in the stage area, also developed to enhance the acoustics. The acoustics have been ranked as one of the best in the world by music experts.
