I stayed for two nights at the Radisson Blu Royal Garden during a quiet weekend in October. It was an unplanned, last-minute leisure trip to visit friends in Trondheim. Check-in was very smooth and friendly. The receptionist was not completely fluent in Norwegian, but that was no problem at all, and the service was warm and welcoming. My VIP status was recognised, and I was upgraded from a standard room to a Superior Room. The room was very comfortable, with a king-size bed and a proper desk with good lighting. A small detail I appreciated was the wood-finish desktop – my mouse actually worked perfectly on it without needing a mouse mat. The temperature was comfortable and could be adjusted from a wall panel, within reasonable limits. The TV also supported casting from a phone. Another small but welcome detail: there were actually enough hangers for both shirts and trousers. The bed was extremely comfortable, as I have come to expect from Radisson hotels, and the room was very quiet. My room was on the fifth floor overlooking the atrium. The view was nothing spectacular, but that did not matter to me. The bathroom was a standard size, with a shower rather than a bathtub. Hot water arrived instantly, which is something you notice when a hotel gets it right. Breakfast had a decent selection, with plenty of options for different tastes, and there was no crowding. The only real miss during my stay was the bacon on the first morning, which was honestly inedible. On the second morning it was exactly as it should be, so perhaps I was just unlucky the first day. The location is excellent. Almost everything in central Trondheim is within walking distance. The railway station is around 10 minutes away on foot, and it is only about five minutes to the airport bus. I paid around NOK 3,000 for two nights, having originally booked a standard room. With the upgrade to a Superior Room, I thought this represented good value for money. I did not use the gym, but I did visit the hotel restaurant, which I will review separately. There were really no significant weaknesses. If I had to mention one small thing, the panoramic windows in the atrium could have done with a cleaning. Overall, an easy 5/5 from me. Comfortable, quiet, well located and friendly, and I would certainly stay here again.
