Fish & chips (can you get in Doha, now you can)

The restaurant situated in the East wing of the hotel, is a small intimate setting.
A little on chilly side so do take a wrap or cardigan (even in height of summer)
The restaurant is decked out in tartan & has trains running around the top of the wall.
It’s a challenge to find decent Fish & Chips away from the UK.
The raw ingredients for multiple reason are just not the same.
For years I’ve craved fish & chips in Doha always to be disappointed at various suggestion of places to go.
That changed last night (15/5)
When I was invited to the soft reopening of the frying Scotsman.
I’ve always been a fan of the many restaurants in the Radisson so my hopes were high but reserved.
We were served crispy onion rings & scampi. Followed by two pies.
All tasty & well presented.
Then main Centre stage course, a choice of Hamour (a fish in the cod family) & cod.
Both cooked in a light batter. (Could possible have been a bit thinner) but did have a crisp outer layer with the fish delicately cooked.
The chips (real potato) cut thick & twice cooked had a slight crisp on outside & a soft inside.
Served with mushy peas & tartare sauce.
All cooked fresh to order.
They are also serving the infamous deep fried Marsbar. (Not one for me). The home made vanilla ice cream was scrumptious.
Hospitality’s as always was excellent.
The director has been at the hotel over 45 years & many of his staff are long time employees. This really shows in the attention to detail, service & the welcome you receive.
If in Doha I highly recommend giving it a try. View more
Choose haddock or cod for your fish and chips or opt for a Scotch Pie - a favorite among the locals-also served with a side of mushy peas and tartar sauce. Portions are big and are don't disappoint, but make sure you leave some room for dessert.
