Washington and Lee University

Student led campus tours and information sessions with admission officers are held year-round for all prospective students. The ninth oldest institution of higher education in America, Washington and Lee is composed of two undergraduate divisions, the College and the Williams School of Commerce, Economics, and Politics; and a graduate School of Law. Washington and Lee's 325-acre campus sits at the edge of Lexington, near the campus of the Virginia Military Institute in the Shenandoah valley region between the Blue Ridge and Allegheny mountains. The university consists of three academic units and hosts 24 intercollegiate varsity athletic teams. 

Sports and recreation

The school's teams compete in the NCAA Division III in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and the Centennial Conference for certain sporting activities, with 12 men's teams in the areas of baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis, indoor and outdoor track & field, and wrestling, where the women's teams also compete in 12 sports including basketball, cross country, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, riding, soccer, swimming, tennis, indoor and outdoor track & field, and volleyball respectively. 

International welcoming 

Sankofa House is one of W&L's newest theme houses, and more than just a place for folks to hang their hats. It is also a sanctuary for students of the African diaspora and their allies to foster community, friendships and activism. 

Student activities

Every four years, the school sponsors the Washington and Lee Mock Convention. The university also hosts the Fancy Dress Ball, a 105-year-old formal black-tie event. Washington and Lee University has several mysterious societies including the Cadaver Society, the Sigma Society, and the Mongolian Minks, while Greek letter organizations play a major role in Washington and Lee's social scene.
