Fargo Air Museum
Visit this fascinating home to aircraft of all eras located just off I-29 interstate. The Fargo Air Museum is a nonprofit organization that serves to promote interest in aviation through education, preservation and restoration. In the late 1990's, a group of local military folks, agriculture pilots, and international Warbird restorers realized there was a wealth of historic aircraft, knowledge and a passion for aviation, education and restoration in the local community. In 2001, they created this fantastic place to learn about aviation, participate in restoration, see historic exhibits, or even host your own event.
Exhibits that really fly
North Dakota's premiere aviation destination is home to aircraft of all eras – from the modern Global Hawk unmanned reconnaissance drone with an impressive 100 foot wingspan to an incredibly accurate recreation of a Wright Brothers' flyer. As a "flying" museum, many of the airplanes will occasionally take to the sky, creating a unique open-air museum environment, with the exciting sounds of rumbling engines from the runway. Explore two hangars full of historical and modern aircraft, including the North American P-51D Mustang, the Duggy, Huey Helicopter, Pitts Special, Standard J1, BT-13 Valiant Trainer, North American Aviation T-6 Texan, B-25 Mitchell.
The museum also houses a collection of war vehicles, such as the Harley-Davidson WLA, which was produced to US Army specifications for use in World War II. The Jeep is on display too and was also born in the early days of World War II, just a year before the United States entered the war.
Education and events
The museum is not just a simple place to display its many aircraft, military memorabilia and exhibits. It also houses one of the Midwest's largest Aviation libraries. Their aviation camps and school partnerships are designed to inspire future pilots, aircraft mechanics, air traffic controllers and more. They also offer group tours and activities for the younger crowd. The museum is also a unique venue for corporate & private events and has quickly become a local favorite for hosting wedding ceremonies and receptions.
The museum is home to an extensive gift shop featuring toys, jewelry, clothing, home decor, books, dvds and much more, ensuring you're bound to find the perfect gift for any aviation enthusiast.
The Fargo Air Museum is easily accessed and pet friendly. Located across the street from the Fargodome, the museum is also surrounded with dining options and is conveniently just moments away from Fargo's Hector International Airport.
The wide variety of exhibits inside make this a must-stop location in North Dakota.
