A private liberal arts college focused on Christian values, Concordia serves more than 2,500 students. With exceptional facilities and a welcoming atmosphere, the college is a fantastic study environment and has a proud history going back to the late 19th century.

From humble beginnings

Concordia College was founded in 1891 by a small group Norwegian-American Lutherans. I.F. Grose served as Concordia College's first leader. When Concordia opened its doors, the institution was officially an academy, though "college" was in its name. As an academy, Concordia offered two-year programs of study including a business course, practical course, and classical course. Grose came to Concordia from St. Olaf where he was a faculty member from 1886 to 1891. When he arrived at Concordia in September 1891, he moved into what is now known as Bishop Whipple Hall to commence his duties as principal while the building was renovated. Grose remained the school's principal until 1893 and continued to serve Concordia in other roles until 1896, including as treasurer. Grose Hall on the campus is named in his honor.

Take a tour

From its start in a secondhand building with three professors and twelve students Concordia has grown into a highly regarded liberal arts college with a whole host of facilities, and serving more than 2,500 students. For prospective students, a tour around the campus can be arranged, with regular open days. Additionally, an admission representative will be on hand to answer any of your questions. You'll be able to stay with a current student in a residence hall to see for yourself what life is like on campus, while your family stays in a nearby hotel.

Each hall of residence has a distinctive appeal, due in part to its history, architectural style and location on campus. Each room is equipped with beds, mattresses, desks, chairs and dressers, as well as high-speed internet access, making a homely environment for students away from home. There's also the option to sit in on classes to sample the teaching standards.

Impressive facilities and teaching standards

The new Integrated Science Center, unveiled in the fall of 2017 is the newest study hotspot on campus. The center offers hands-on learning with brand new equipment and study rooms ideal for group projects. Concordia's curriculum boasts of a strong foundation in the liberal arts running through it. All students complete two of their signature integrative learning experiences ("PEAKs") where the focus is on active learning that occurs outside of the traditional classroom. This might include leadership roles, trips abroad or work experience.
