Nelis' Dutch Village

If you are visiting Michigan, you must drop by this Dutch paradise. It is the perfect place for family entertainment, for tulip lovers, cheese fans and if you are curious about Dutch culture.

You'll be transported to how the Netherlands was 100 years ago in a blink!

Dutch nostalgia

Nelis' Dutch village recreates 10 acres of authentic Dutch architecture from the 1800s with beautiful canals and gardens filled with animals, which your kids can feed in the petting zoo.

Experience Klompen (Dutch wooden shoes) dancers and traditional music from Amsterdam. Enjoy the different activities such as cookie making and learn a few Dutch words to immerse in the culture of the country, as well as about its famous cheese, pottery and how wooden shoes are made.

For children, they offer several rides to have fun. Jump into the old 1924-carousel or the giant Wooden Shoe Slide or the 45' tall Ferris Wheel – it will feel like you are riding a Dutch windmill.

Delight your taste buds

When visiting the village make sure to you have an empty stomach, as there will be plenty of delicacies to try.

The smell of fudge will lead you to De Zoete Haan to try homemade fudge. It will melt in your mouth as soon as you give a bite. Savor hand-dipped ice cream at the Nutty Dutchman, where you can pick soft or hard cones to go with it. And try famous cheeses while you hear about its history at De Kaaswinkel.

If the tasting wasn't enough, take some treats home or as gifts for friends and family.

Tulip festival

Plan ahead to include the Tulip festival in your visit if you are one of those flower lovers. It is held at the beginning of May every year, as tulips are blooming during Spring. At the village, you'll find around 35,000 tulips planted around the park, displaying over 100 varieties.

The tulip season is popular among visitors so opening hours tend to be extended.

If you wish to plant some tulips at home, you can purchase some bulbs.

Note this

If you are visiting during the holidays, you'll get to see Sinterklaas and learn about the Dutch traditions celebrated over Christmas. Enjoy typical Dutch cookies and cider while you browse around.

Activities held at the village are for all ages. If you just want to shop and enjoy a classic Dutch meal, there is a shop, pub and a café outside of the village area.
