Eighth Street Farmers Market
Pick up fresh produce and entertain the children at Holland Farmers Market at the Eighth Street Marketplace in downtown Holland. The market takes place every Wednesday and Saturday from 8am to 3pm from May through to December. During winter, an Outdoor Winter Market is held from 9am to 12pm the first and third Saturdays of each month from January to April. Over 75 vendors participate, offering healthy foods such as freshly picked fruit and vegetables, bouquets of flowers, and plants for home and garden as well as a host of other produce.
Fresh and local produce
Enjoy a wander through this extensive farmers market and benefit from a huge selection of baked goods, honey, herbs and spices, fresh cheeses, eggs, and meat. As a producers market, most of this is grown or made locally in Michigan. There's also items such as garden art and furniture, dried flower arrangements, pet food, jewelry, beauty products, woolen items and interior decor products.
Take a break from shopping and taste a delicious breakfast or lunch from the Food Court, which serves street food items as diverse as Bahn Mi fries, BBQ pork, breakfast tacos, vegan ice cream and pizza. Note that the market does not allow pets. There is an ATM onsite, while there are Market Bucks gift certificates available.
Exciting events and entertainment
As well as a comprehensive selection of things to buy, the market is also home to great activities and features to excite and inform the whole family. Street performers roam around the markets entertaining children, for example balloon artists create balloon animals for your little ones, while live music performances are regularly scheduled. On Wednesdays during summer, kids activities such as scavenger hunts, science days and other educational events take place, so they'll be kept occupied while you hunt for delicious healthy food. Adults don't miss out on the fun either, the Chef Series on Saturdays in summer allow you to learn new recipes and ways of cooking with an experienced local chef using ingredients from the market itself.
There are also many seasonal events at the market. Enjoy a summer solstice celebration or a Fall festival, complete with pumpkin carving, as well as apples, gourds and straw bales! The "Kerstmarkt" (Dutch for "Christmas Market",) offers a venue for local specialty shops to sell traditional Christmas gifts and ornaments, as well as providing plenty of traditional food and entertainment perfect for the season.
