East Valley Children's Theatre
Take the kids to see an entertaining live theater show performed by other kids at the East Valley Children's Theatre. A non-profit organization, it aims to provide young people with confidence, self esteem and life skills to set them up for a brighter future. The troupe performs regular child-friendly productions at the state-of-the-art Mesa Arts Center in downtown Mesa.
Improving children's confidence
East Valley Children's Theatre (EVCT) has been an artistic force in the East Valley for 20 years, through many different theatrical programs for children of all ages. Its mission is to offer children from the ages of 5 to 18 opportunities to experience live theater, both from a production and performance perspective and as the audience. Managed by an all-volunteer board of directors, kids at EVCT can take acting classes, join troupes, participate in acting camps and audition for performances. Its mission is to provide a safe environment for children to gain self-esteem, explore creative outlets and grow into community-minded young adults.
The troupe has grown from one production and one workshop to an award-winning children's theater, bringing a wonderful range of performances to children and their families in the East Valley.
Developing their imaginations
The theater group doesn't just benefit the kids performing, it's also a learning experience for the children in the audience. In an age of digital platforms, attention spans are getting shorter. Long-form live performances are known to assist with the development of these attention spans and allows students to see mistakes in real life, teaching them that the highly-edited shows and movies on the internet are not an accurate reflection of how live performances work. Watching real-life performances also help with children's imagination, as special effects and CGI are absent from the shows.
East Valley Children's Theatre also exposes children to many works of literature and gets them to ask questions and learn more about renowned authors and playwrights. The shows take place at the beautiful Mesa Arts Center located in the heart of Mesa, at the southeast corner of Main and Center Streets.
This center is a unique, architecturally stunning and award-winning facility that houses four theaters. Previous performances at the theater have included Oz!, Heroes of Olim and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, The Musical, as well as original plays.
A trip to this theater for children, by children is a wonderful way to entertain your children while visiting Mesa, Arizona.
