ODEON / Odense Concert Hall
Discover the best in classical and contemporary music performances, ballet, opera, and theater at Odense's music and theater venue. Inaugurated in spring 2017, ODEON is one of the largest cultural centers in Denmark. It houses four stages and The Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, Southern Denmark under one roof. The great hall seats approximately 1,800 spectators while the small hall accommodates a further 300 spectators.
In the heart of Odense
The site is located in the Hans Christian Andersen Quarter, nestled between the historical Old Town and contemporary multi-story housing. The variation surrounding the building has provided inspiration for the architecture. Visitors to the theater can enjoy the local shops, the history of Black Brothers Torv, and the newly pedestrianized Thomas B. Thriges street. The venue is also only 5 minutes away from Odense Train Station and around 15 minutes from the E20 motorway, making it an easily accessible location right in the middle of Odense.
Scandinavian design-led architecture
In keeping with the Nordic tradition, the architects of ODEON have succeeded in adding the new complex to the city in a way that fits in with the overall urban image, which includes apartments built for young people. The façade consists of vertically profiled prefabricated white concrete elements which are particularly attractive in oblique light. The ground floor is alternately glazed and fitted with a primary wall of grey brick. All together, the Odeon covers a gross area of 32,000 square meters. Inside the building, generously sized foyers provide access to the great hall for 1,800 spectators, the small hall with 300 seats, a chamber-music hall, and an area for dance performances. The interiors in the access zones consist of white walls and slatted ceilings, as well as black steel stairways and ash strip flooring. The great hall enjoys a rather unusual color combination featuring grass-green seats and golden wall cladding, a tribute to Copenhagen's Royal Theatre.
