The theater was planned in 2002 by the City Council, under the working title of "Market Square Theatre." Completed in September 2006, it was designed by Page + Steele Architects and was named The Rose Theatre Brampton. It was opened after a series of public events throughout September 2006, which culminated in a grand opening on 29 September featuring Canadian jazz pianist and singer, Diana Krall. Step into this wonderfully created venue, featuring modern architecture, stunning lighting, and state-of-the-art acoustics to experience a variety of performances. The two differently sized venues within mean that you can choose from large-scale events or more intimate shows.

The Rose produces over 100 performances a year, including theater, music, dance, comedy, and cultural events. In front of the center is the Garden Square, which houses the the Lorna Bissell Fountain Stage and a fully-licensed patio. Here, you can enjoy the free shows that take place throughout summer. The Rose is home to the Rose Theatre Summer Series. This summer stock theater festival includes many different theatrical pieces and takes place across their two indoor venues, as well as the Garden Square. The theater company also produces a full season of arts education programming, with performances for all ages and grades, at a subsidized cost for students. Their annual talent showcase competition offers local school children up to Grade 12 the chance to perform on the Main Stage. The theater can be accessed by car from Highway 10 from the north and west and Highway 410 from the south and east. Parking in the underground garage below the theater is free in the evenings on show days and there's an elevator to the main lobby.
