Jockey Club at São Paulo

Enjoy a family day out at this famous racecourse close to São Paulo. With a large green area, the Jockey Club of São Paulo is not just for races, but has a variety of leisure options waiting for you. The club offers various activities for members: tennis courts, soccer courts, soccer fields, gymnastics, physiotherapy, a sauna, a hairdresser, and a games room. There's also plentiful dining and drinking options at the historic site.

A distinctive design

The first official race in the history of the Jockey Club took place on October 29, 1876, at the Hipódromo da Mooca. In 1941, the club moved premises to the current venue the Hipódromo de Cidade Jardim where it resides today. The architectural complex of the Jockey Club is registered by the municipal and state preservation agencies for its historical importance to São Paulo. It's an important symbol of the city and the elite that erected it. Designed by Elisario Bahiana, it uses concrete materials with the use of formal elements of Art Déco architecture. The architect's design was futuristic for the time of construction, with ball-shaped pillars, geometric designs, and carved ornaments shaped like horse heads. In the 1950s, the architect Henri Sajous remodeled the main Jockey Club buildings, especially the grandstand for the members, and expanded the facilities. A hospital, administration building, new stables, and more were added.

Visiting the racecourse

Synonymous with the São Paulo elite, the club hosts parties with champagne and great events attended by glamorous women wearing hats. It's not expensive to enjoy the main attractions of the Jockey Club, however, as admission is free. Watch the exciting races that take place on Saturdays and Sundays from 2 pm to 8 pm and on Mondays from 6 pm to 11 pm. You can also, of course, lay bets on the outcome of these races and potentially scoop big winnings from your day out! Let your kids get close to nature in this wonderfully spacious green space just outside the city. For children and teenagers up to 15 years of age, horse and pony rides are organized on weekends from 1 pm to 6 pm.

Stylish and spacious club

There are three dining options on site: Iulia, Villa Jockey, and Cafe Jockey, as well as food trucks that serve food around the venue. The club has two lounges, two English bars, balconies and tribunes of honor, and can accommodate up to 780 people seated or 1,280 in a cocktail reception format. The spacious parking area can host up to 2,000 vehicles. There's also an exhibition about the history of the club, called "Jockey Club - Cultural Patrimony Of The City Of São Paulo." It aims to educate visitors about the importance of the club to São Paulo, jockey history and the architecture, through a series of guided visits and historical exhibitions with old photographs, artifacts, and interactive features.
